Posted by Liz Marshall on

In a new joint venture, Backup Tech, The BACK LOUNGE, and the UK Live Event Freelancers Forum are launching a series of three online workshops to support freelancers in the live entertainment industry with financial literacy.

Hosted on Zoom by Suzi Green (The BACK LOUNGE) and Paul Jones (UK Live Event Freelancers Forum), each one-hour, stand-alone session will feature guest experts and cover practical advice for sole traders and small businesses. Topics range from managing taxes, savings, and insurance to financial planning, legal basics, and navigating tough times.

The aim is to promote long-term financial stability and empower freelancers to take control of their finances, with a Q&A included in every session. The series is open to anyone working in UK live events, music touring, theatre, or broadcast.

Workshop Dates & Topics

  • 1 May – Setting Up Shop: Self-employed vs Ltd company, savings, ISAs, pensions

  • 15 May – Staying Out of Trouble: Insurance, financial protection, debt

  • 28 May – Financial Wellbeing: The New Rock 'n' Roll: Mindset shift, contracts, T&Cs, cancellations

All sessions run 5–6pm and will be recorded, with highlights available later.
